At maxwell+spark we like to solve problems

Problems such as how to secure batteries at Vodacom cell phone tower sites across South Africa.

Last week we welcomed a delegation from Vodacom, including CEO Sitho Mdlalose, to our production facility in Durban to show them how our High Security Battery Cabinet (HSBC) is made.

Lithium-ion batteries at Vodacom sites have become essential to keeping communication possible during periods of loadshedding and other power cuts. They are also far too often the target of criminal syndicates. Each time a battery is stolen network outages mean not only the financial cost of replacement, but the disruption and inconvenience caused to consumers.
We are therefore very proud to offer the HSBC as our bespoke solution to the problem of battery theft at Vodacom tower sites.

In response to Vodacom’s request for security solutions, maxwell+spark designed a unique enclosure that would help reduce the massive spend on vandalised sites and battery theft. Our industry-leading design contains a mixture of steel geometries and high strength Cementous filler, which resit attack from modern tools through tool disruption, entanglement, jamming, clogging, and blunting.

Our partnership with Vodacom began two years ago and feedback to date has been very positive. We look forward to further orders, as well as working on battery storage solutions and a customised battery pack for the HSBC.
