The European Parliament’s approval of the revised Ambient Air Quality Directive (AAQD) on April 24, 2024, is pivotal in enhancing air quality standards across the EU. Air pollution remains a significant concern, with approximately 300,000 premature deaths annually attributed to it in Europe and means there is a pressing need for action.
Our product line, advantage.li, replaces conventional diesel-powered refrigeration units on truck trailers with lithium-ion battery ones, and in doing so, directly contributes to this effort. Changing just one of these diesel-powered transport refrigeration units to one of ours is equivalent to taking about 20 diesel cars off the road in terms of CO2 emissions, and equivalent to taking about 150 diesel cars off the road in terms particulate emissions.
By transitioning to cleaner energy sources, such as lithium-ion batteries, our system eliminates harmful emissions associated with diesel combustion, thus reducing air pollution and its detrimental impact on health.
The adoption of the AAQD marks a significant milestone in prioritising human health and environmental protection. It underscores the urgency for adopting sustainable solutions like ours to combat air pollution and create healthier environments for all. Effective implementation of the directive, coupled with the adoption of eco-friendly technologies like our lithium-ion battery-powered TRU system, is crucial for achieving tangible improvements in air quality across Europe.
