Battery refrigeration sounds good. But do we need to rebuild our operation around it? It’s one of the first questions operators ask about any new technology.
Working with DistriFresh B.V., a Dutch temperature-controlled food distribution operator, we monitored how a battery-electric refrigeration system (advantage.li) integrated into an existing fleet.
We were not looking at performance in isolation — but how it fits into day-to-day operations.
Across nearly two years of telemetry-backed operation, a clear pattern emerged:
- Charging took place during standard depot dwell times
- No additional infrastructure was required
- No mid-route charging was needed
- No redesign of delivery schedules
The system didn’t ask the operation to adapt to it. It adapted to the operation.
And in logistics, that’s often the difference between a technology that works in theory — and one that works in practice.
